The Granite Cross

One of the first features you'll notice upon entering through the main entrance is a large granite cross set in the rolling, open landscape.

Designed by Gunnar Asplund and erected in 1939, the granite cross stands on the lawn in front of the Woodland Crematorium. It was made possible by an anonymous donation.

Skogskyrkogården is a cemetery open to all, regardless of religious beliefs. While the cross is traditionally a Christian symbol of life after death, here it can also be seen simply as a symbol of the cemetery.
